BMW MALAYSIA UNVEILS THE FIRST-EVER BMW iX3 M Sport IN BOTH THE INSPIRING AND IMPRESSIVE VARIANTS.

Premium automaker raises the bar for pure electric driving pleasure with the First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport.

Kuala Lumpur, 13th January 2022 – BMW Malaysia today unveiled the First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport, an exemplification of the BMW Group’s electrification offensive, which combines the sporting character of a BMW Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) with an all-electric drivetrain. The fully-electric mid-sized SAV arrives in the Inspiring and Impressive variants, complete with the M Sport Package as standard.

Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia said, “The First-Ever BMW iX3 is a pioneer in the domain of pure electric vehicles – and not just because of its sheer driving capabilities that are characteristic of a BMW SAV. Representing a new generation of BMW i, the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology is now also found in the First-Ever BMW iX and BMW i4. Together, they will continue to pave the way for premium electric mobility in the country.”

The First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport features an integrated drive unit that brings the electric motor, power electronics and transmission together within a single housing. A product of the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, the high-voltage battery boasts exceptional gross energy capacity along with high efficiency. This allows it to achieve a superior operating range that endures both everyday driving and harsh driving conditions. Advanced charging technology enables up to 150 kW of power to be fed into the vehicle at a DC fast-charging station, increasing its range at a rate of approximately 100 km per 10 minutes (according to the WLTP test cycle), further giving the First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport compelling everyday usability.

Striking appearance with the M Sport Package.
The First-Ever BMW iX3 features an expressive exterior design, which is bolstered further by the standard-equipped M Sport Package which includes the M Aerodynamics Package. Exterior highlights include M Roof rails in high-gloss Shadowline, as well as revamped airbreathers behind the front wheel arches, which serve an aerodynamic purpose by improving airflow. The front and rear of the First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport have been furnished with elements in BMW i Blue, lending the SAV its characteristic looks and hinting at its fully-electric powertrain.

The First-Ever BMW iX3 Inspiring variant is equipped with 19-inch aerodynamic wheels, while the Impressive variant comes with 20” M aerodynamic wheels in 890 M Bicolour. For the centre console, the selector lever takes on a new design, while the button layout has been updated – furnished with blue BMW i elements, seen also on the Start/Stop button. Illuminated M entry sills, the M leather steering wheel, M high-gloss Shadowline, M headliner anthracite, Interior trim finishers in Aluminium fine cutting with highlight trim finisher Pearl Chrome, instrument panel in Sensatec, galvanic embellishers for controls, ambient light and panoramic sunroof further add to the visual allure on the cabin.

For the rear passenger seats, backrest adjustment is also possible. Thanks to the standard inclusion of the interior and exterior mirror packages, drivers of the First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport are aided on the road with automatic anti-dazzle functionality. Meanwhile, automatic air conditioning with three-zone control ensures comfort for both driver and passengers.

The fully-electric SAV is also complete with BMW IconicSounds Electric, a newly developed soundscape for extra emotional depth to the driving experience.

Performance, efficiency and range in one package.

The current-excited synchronous motor generates up to 286 hp (210 kW) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm delivered to the rear wheels. As a result, the century sprint can be made in just 6.8 seconds. With a gross battery capacity of 80 kWh (around 74 kWh net) and energy consumption as low as 18.5 kWh/100 km, the First-Ever BMW iX3 M Sport can achieve up to 461 km in one full charge (WLTP).

Underlining the figures above, a number of key considerations have been made to achieve the agile handling and Sheer Driving Pleasure that a BMW vehicle promises to deliver. These include positioning the already low-weight battery on the vehicle floor, achieving a 43/57 weight distribution for optimised traction on the rear axle and also the adoption of the actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation. Moreover, adaptive suspension also allows for better adjustment to driving circumstances, further enhancing ride comfort and driving dynamics.
